If you’ve ever been to La Jolla you know the La Valencia Hotel. It’s big and pink, and the Spanish architecture is a striking contrast to the natural beauty of the surf at the cove below. While clear skies are also an iconic companion to that image the reality is that rain happens on a lot of weddings. The thing about weather (especially weather in San Diego), is it typically comes in spurts. I can’t think of a wedding I’ve shot where it just poured all day long. Usually there is a break long enough to venture out at some point. I knew that day was going to be epic. The clouds were menacing, the surf was pounding. As we were getting ready and watching the sky glare at us darkly we got to that point when you have to make the call – are you going to do the ceremony indoors? Or do you put out the chairs and cross your fingers? I guess when you’re from Las Vegas you’re used to rolling the dice. Whatever universal or meteorological powers you believe in – our desert dwellers managed to not get rained out entirely. Luck landed in our favor long enough to not only get a reprieve on the ceremony, but also a little time for us to take some portraits down by the water. Rain or shine, nothing was going to stop Lauren and Mike from having a great time on their day.
