A Malibou Lake Mountain Club wedding- our first Los Angeles area wedding of the year! And an extremely special one for us at that! I met Candise in March of 2009 when Melissa and I came down to shoot Cassandra and Pete’s engagement session. My friend Rachel has all of these fantastic women she met through her college sorority, both Cassandra and Candise included. I remember very distinctly the night I met Candise. All the Triple Ds (as I affectionately call them… Delta Delta Deltas) were all whispering about the great guy Candise was dating. Unfortunately Griff wasn’t actually attending the party so I didn’t get to meet him until much later. That night I was impressed most by Candise’s extensive knowledge of DJ Quik lyrics. I tend to bond with people over explicit 90s rap, and from that day on Candise has been “Hi-C” to me. Of course I could gush about how Candise has an amazing personality, she’s the sort of person you can feel close to within minutes of speaking to her, she’s incredibly loyal, caring, funny, etc. But what I really want you to remember most is she can recite DJ Quik lyrics. That is a skill really in short supply of these days.
As the DDDs began to marry off in quick succession we were so happy to get the call from Candise that we were her choice for wedding photographers. Photographing a wedding is an extremely personal thing, but doing it for someone you already know and care about, just adds another dimension of emotion to it. We’ve been so lucky to be able to spend time with Candise and Griff, getting to know them before their wedding, from flying down to shoot their engagement session in Hollywood, to seeing them just a few weeks later when we returned to California to for a winter roadtrip. They are awesome people, and Melissa and I feel beyond lucky to have been a part of their day. Speaking of their day, let’s get on to reliving it!
The girls were getting ready at the gorgeous Westlake Village Inn.
Though the room was spacious, Candise packed in a lot of ladies!
The first look was amazing and emotional!
And right after we wrapped up portraits on the lake, we came back in time for an amazing introduction!
Followed by a great dinner, then a non-stop dance party!
The DDDs have a tradition where they sing to the sister that’s gotten married. It’s a sweet and emotional moment.
Shawna and Jenny started to put on one of their sexy strawberry eating contests until it got out of control and Candise had to break it up.
