When I originally was living in San Diego I had no inkling that photography was in my future. Returning I’m discovering that a lot of the more notable landmarks in and around the city are ones I’ve yet to photograph. So in a sense everything is new and exciting again even if I technically am a native. Oddly enough I don’t really recall ever visiting the Mt. Soledad cross. I’m sure I did at one point in time, but I really don’t remember. If you’re aware of the controversy of it, the cross at some point may be just a memory, so Melissa and I decided the other day to check it out. I had intended to arrive there in time for the sunset. We ended up arriving there too early because we had forgotten to stop at Target along the way (not sure how we forgot that). However with the way the cloud cover was looking that day I’m not sure a sundown timeframe would have mattered tremendously. The views up there are pretty tremendous, and I think a return trip at night will be in order sometime in the future for some long exposures. One piece of advice – dress warmly. It’s pretty windy up there.
PS – I do not have any details on the small memorial I found for Craig Cates (possibly Gates?). If anyone has any details on it let me know.
