Balboa Park is a nearly limitless backdrop for photography. Engagement sessions, weddings, portraits, they all have an easy place there. I have a feeling as our business continues to grow in San Diego that we’ll be spending a lot of time in the park. I don’t really foresee myself growing tired of it either. Even as a child it was always a place I thought was special. Of course when I was growing up we were allowed to climb and play on the massive Moreton Bay fig tree which is now fenced off, so I feel somewhat privileged. Other than that, there really haven’t been many changes to the park aside from that. In a way coming back to this city as a photographer is like experiencing it for the first time.
When we originally shot Rebecca and Devon’s engagement session in West Hollywood we got kicked out of one of our planned locations. I’d like to think I do fairly well with improvising and adapting, but we still lost time just in traveling to, then leaving, and then finding another spot. Rebecca and Devon are so laid back that I think I was probably more upset with the loss of photos than they were. I told them the next time they came down to San Diego we’d do a part two to make up for the missed opportunity of the first session. So I’m really not sure if this second session was more for me or them, but either way it was awesome to get a chance to photograph them again in one of my favorite new/old settings.
